History of Safe Routes to School
In the past, it was the norm for children to travel to school by walking or bicycling. Today, the number of children walking and biking to school has declined dramatically. This is due, in part, distance from school, traffic conditions, parental concerns of crime and child safety, and lack of sidewalks. Safe Routes to School (STRS) was designed to address these issues.
